The UK series seemed to be in dire straits after the past two seasons. Recapturing the magic of Season 2 was an increasingly daunting task. But as Ru himself likes to note, you can’t keep a good queen down. UK Season 5 was a triumph, a return to simple, fun Drag Race the likes of which we hadn’t seen in years. Even a scandal involving a disqualified queen couldn’t ruin the party! So many queens made the journey a great one, from the quick-witted Kate Butch to the first-ever American on UK, Cara Melle. In the end, the northeast won out, with Ginger Johnson, Michael Marouli, and Tomara Thomas all making the grand finale. And while it was a close race between the top two, Ginger ultimately became the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar.
