The shortest of the regular seasons, Season 8 was largely beloved at the time, only to fall a bit by the wayside in the fandom’s collective memory thanks to All Stars 2 airing just months later. It occupied a strange space for me personally, as it was the last season that aired before I started recapping the show. What I did remember was liking it a bit less on balance than others did, largely because of the lack of story and a steamroll by winner Bob the Drag Queen. And indeed, the rewatch bore out that this is ultimately a pretty mediocre season, It has its pleasures, though, especially early in the season and among the stacked cast.
