After a rocky first season and some related, disastrous pre-season press, Canada’s Drag Race Season 2 had nowhere to go but up. Airing alongside the latest season of Drag Race UK was also a perilous proposition, considering how UK Season 2 made Season 13 look weak in comparison. But from the start, there was a plucky spirit to this season that caught my eye. While UK disappointed, Canada’s thrived, boasting one of the most charming, rootable casts the franchise has ever seen. Early outs like Suki Doll and Eve 6000 had major moments to shine, while the Brat Pack of Gia Metric, Kendall Gender, and Synthia Kiss brought a group friendship dynamic into the show. The new judging panel also proved themselves to be both more enjoyable and empathetic than their predecessors, with special kudos owed to Brad Goreski and Amanda Brugel. In the end, this season was a duel of sorts between two impressive frontrunners — and while Québécois queen Pythia put up a hell of a fight, it was fashion queen Icesis Couture who took home the crown.
