The first All Stars season of the new era promised to be an affair much like All Stars 6: a cast that mixed fan favorites with underdogs to create a perfect combination. Unfortunately, the recipe proved to be less potent this time around. All Stars 8 was a slog, with questionable strategic decisions, underwhelming drag, and off-camera conversations dragging down the quality of the season. The highlights were the resurgence of Season 2’s Jessica Wild, star-making turns for LaLa Ri and Kahanna Montrese, and just-for-TV antics from Kandy Muse and Alexis Michelle. In the end, the conspicuous casting of Canadian queen Jimbo as the only international All Star proved to be a canary in a coal mine, as the clown queen dominated and ultimately took home the crown.
